Berit and Marc - New York Country Club

I am sure Berit and Marc are so thankful for the beautiful day they had considering all the rain we have been having! Fortunately (for me), I had this weekend off to catch up on some of my work and spend an ENTIRE weekend with my wife. She travels quite a bit so having a whole weekend together was quite a treat! We went to the movies this afternoon to see Little Miss Sunshine, which I highly recommend seeing.

OK - enough about me, check out Berit and Marc's Slideshow. I spent most of Saturday afternoon working on their images which are incredible! Thanks again to my good friend Frank Dimeo who took so many amazing shots! You can see some of his new stuff on Frank's blog, too.

I often discuss with my peers how amazing it is to see two photographers' perspectives of the same moment. While going through Berit and Marc's photos, I came across these two pictures. Taken within two seconds of each other - how incredibly different are they? I will admit - Frank you rocked it with this shot, but I think mine is pretty good, too. Of course, what is really important is that my clients will get 2 fabuous shots! :)

Got tech support?

I want to throw a quick plug to Scott Adams who is now offering computer/Ipod technical support. Scott has been a great go-to guy (and client) for me over the last year with some pretty tricky questions. No more need to stand in line at Tekserve to have some snide techno-geek roll his eyes at you. :) Scott is your man!!

Congratulations Megan and Brian!

Megan and Brian had their couple's shower today, and will have their wedding in Tarrytown in October. Brian, along with his four older brothers have been close childhood friends of mine and we have been getting into trouble together as long as I can remember. His brothers are all over the country now so it will be fun having them all together at the wedding.

Over the years I have enlisted the help of 3 of the 5 brothers to shoot weddings. I don't want to start any family controversies, but I am going on record today letting everyone know he was the best of all the Cummins boys.

Here is a photo of Brian and I circa 1994, he is gonna kill me for putting this picture up, but I could not resist. :) I was 24, and Brian was only 17 - classic!!

From Jacksonville to the Bahamas.

What a great journey I had this week! On Wednesday afternoon I flew down to meet Alisha to help her shoot Heena and Prashant's wedding. I was also joined by Tim, and Scarlett. Scarlett's style is awesome, definitely check her out! She lives in Jacksonville, and travels often for her weddings.

We had one small snafu -- we found out that because of a broken propeller, the boat would no longer be docking in Freeport on Friday. That meant Alisha couldn't join us on the boat since she had another gig on Saturday! Fortunately, the bride and groom-to-be had two great photographers left. :)

From that point on, it was nothing but calm seas for Heena and Prashant as their ceremonies continued for two more days and were filled with both Indian and Western traditions - here are just a few of my favorites. And - a slideshow of more! Heena and Prashant's 3 day extravaganza


I want to thank Heena and Prashant's family and friends, who flew in from all over the country, for being so warm and hospitable. It was awesome meeting all of you! Heena and Prahshant - "big props" (no pun intended) go to you guys! Thank you for taking care of ALL of the details. Get home safe!

It's all about those "moments" in time. As a documentary style photographer nothing makes me happier than to take a photo like this.


The last dance of the evening - As the MC of the band announced it was the last dance, I watched Berit's eyes light up looking for Marc. She grabbed him and they enjoyed the last moments of a wonderul evening together with friends and family. As the song ended Marc grabbed Berit, swung her around and gave her a big kiss. For me to have this as the last frame in my camera for the evening topped off a great day!

Normally I would post a few more teasers - this time however I am going to direct you to my friend Frank DiMeo's blog. I was fortunate enough to have him with me Saturday - after spending 5 hours in the car, he jumped out and said "J - man, are you ready to rock the house?" With a smile on his face he threw on his black shirt, started shooting, and never stopped. I was playing "catch-up" all day long. :) Seriously though, Frank's passion for shooting is awe-inpspiring, and we have learned so much from each other - thanks Frank for your hard work yesterday. I am sure their jaws will drop as much as mine did when I opened your blog page!

How did you guys arrange for such a beautiful (82 degrees and no humidity) day in August? What a spectacular day for an outdoor wedding at sunset. Thanks so much guys for giving us so much time to take such marvelous shots! Here are just a few from yesterdays wedding....more tomorrow!

Bubble tea has caffeine in it!

So I am sitting in bed last night at 3AM wondering why I cannot fall asleep. I was up early, exercised, worked all day, and then met Laura and Sierra in Chinatown for their engagement shoot - I should be exausted! Then it hits me, bubble tea has caffeine in it, that's why I can't sleep! :)

If you have never had one of these here is a picture (I grabbed from Wikipedia) - they are awesome! Bubble tea is a tea beverage with tapioca balls mixed in. The Chinese name for bubble tea translates to "Pearl milk tea" (Traditional Chinese:珍珠奶茶). When tea is shaken, a thin layer of bubbles forms on the surface.

They have a fun wedding planned out in the Poconos next month, although I have to admit I am a little nervous. In all the years I have been shooting weddings it has never been for a fellow peer! The view from above.

This post may seem a little obvious, but it gave me the excuse to put this photo up. Pictured below is the view from the 64th floor of the Pegasus room at Rockefeller center. I met Jamie and her parents there last night to go over some last minute details for her wedding. As with any wedding, making sure your day is timed out well is important and I am always willing to lend a hand when asked. Of course with a view like this you want to make sure nothing spoils it - I have not been up there at night in such a long time, I am looking forward to seeing those bright night lights from above!

Saturday afternoon I helped my good friend Roberto Falck out with a wedding he was shooting in Queens. I was so excited to shoot in the park where the unisphere was! My parents first apartment was not too far from there and remember seeing it from our apartment window. Thanks Roberto for letting me join you at this fun party! It was great watching you work! Be sure to check Roberto's blog for more - he also had a mini-studio set up where people could take their own photos during the party. I hope he posts some of those, it was fun to watch!

Yanks move into 1st place!

I have been a Yankee fan since my dad used to moonlight at the stadium (as a union electrician) from 1978-1981 - talk about some dynasty years! My mom was also a big baseball fan (although I think she just liked Bucky Dent in that tight uniform) and for those four years my dad would "find" seats for my brother Douglas, our friends and my patient mother who would drive us into the Bronx in the sweltering heat all summer long. I can still remember how hot that 1974 Plymouth Duster with no A/C would get on the Major Deegan Expressway. :) I was only 9 years old, but I remember dreaming of being the next Ron Guidry, and how crushed I was when Thurman Munson died in the plane crash. These memories all came back to me in a flash when Luke came back to his seat with an ice cream sundae in a mini Yankee batting helmet. As an nine year old there was nothing better than one of those sundaes (in the helmet of course) at the game. Ah, good times. :)

Monday night I went to the game with my good friends Frank, Alisha, Timco, Chris, Brian, Luke, and Roberto. It was one of the hottest games I can remember, but so were were the Yanks! Our man, Bernie Williams broke the game open in the 4th inning and it was all Yanks from that point on. Looking forward to watching the Yanks in October! Here are a few very sweaty shots of us at the game. We are all right in the middle of our busy season so it awesome to take a night out to just enjoy each other's company, and talk a little "shop" of course. :)
